Winner of Rukin Hyland’s 2014 Equity and Inclusion Scholarship

Rukin Hyland & Riggin LLP is delighted to announce that Monica Porter has been awarded the Firm’s 2014 Equity and Inclusion Scholarship.

A Bay Area native, Monica is currently in her second year at the George Washington University Law School, where she is a Public Interest Fellow and Legal Research and Writing Fellow. Monica impressed us with her strong demonstrated interest in employment law. She is currently clerking for Hon. Cynthia McKnight of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, previously interned with the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division and spent last summer working at Bay Area Legal Aid’s Legal Barriers to Employment Project in San Francisco.

Monica graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2009 with a B.A. in Social Welfare and minors in Public Policy and Disability Studies. As an undergraduate, she served on the National Council on Independent Living, World Institute on Disability, and Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities. Between college and law school, Monica served as an AmeriCorps fellow and then Assistant Director of the Bay Area JusticeCorps program. Additionally, Monica is a member of the GW International Law Review, Moot Court Board, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Board.  As a law student she has served with the U.S. Department of Justice: Civil Rights Division, Bay Area Legal Aid: Legal Barriers to Employment Project, and Employment Justice Center.
